black bear (morgantown, west virginia)

This would make my 4th time playing here and let me tell ya...

It was a blast.

Because it was a friday night, the place was packed from the get go. As I was setting up my stuff, little kids came and lined up their chairs right in front of the wooden corner stage... but I think I scared them away with my amp. Hey now, don't judge, I didn't mean to. I was playing softly, I promise.

The show started at 6:30 and I meant to take a break every 45 minutes, but the crowd was so responsive, I didn't want to stop. PT tried to save me some nachos because I kept saying, "I'm gonna take a break here in a second." Er.... whoops? I like my nachos messy anywho.

Caitlin and Danielle definitely showed support, bringing friends and all. And of course, Lydia, Barb, Julie, Melissa, Alexia, and Daphne are always supporting me. I really do appreciate that. Lord knows that I can get sick of my voice, my fear is that they will. :P

Surprisingly, local YouTubers from Pennsylvania and Maryland came down to listen, too! This is a first for me! Reminds me of when Tommy Emmanuel came to West Virginia to play at Festivall in Charleston. He was simply blown away from the turn out. He then asked, "How did you all find out about me?" In unison, they replied - "YouTube!"

So, thanks YouTube for letting me post my vids! Maybe one day, I'll be as well-known as Tommy E...

...yyyyeah, right. Ha!

I ended the night with the WVU favorite "Country Roads"... or at least an attempt to do the first bit of it. :)

This was one of the best and most responsive turnouts I've seen in my live music career. Thanks everyone!

much love,
chris

Special thanks to Jason and all the Black Bear staff. :)

bocktown (pittsburgh, pa)

Who would have guessed that after 5 1/2 years of playing guitar that I would be playing in places like Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?

All I have to say about this gig is - "Wow, what a place!" No, it's not huge, but man, it is the place to be. Four hundred (and more) beers to choose from! Try their toasted lager - mmmmm.

The food is magnificent (I had a Bocktown Burger, I think, and it was amazing) and the people are even better.

Chris, the store manager, is probably one of the most personable people I've met in the biz. Tera, her talent director, is the woman who found me in Beaver, Pa around this time last year. Luckily, they both seem to like me. :)

A lot of curious locals came to listen to me play, and I really got a warm response. I played for around 3 hours... (poor Lydia, my only West Virginian) until my string broke during Classical Gas. It was a great note to end on though 'cause my nails had been clipped a little too short. :) I would definitey love to come back an chill here, even when I'm not playing.

The fun of playing in places where people don't know who you are is simply this - they will know who you are when you're finished. When you're done playing, maybe you'll be lucky enough for them to be a fan. And then, you can discuss your music over great food, great friends, and great beer.
